How do I know if I need a dental extraction?
We never make the recommendation for dental extractions in our Nederland, TX dental office without consideration of the other options available to improve your oral health. Unfortunately, sometimes a tooth cannot be saved with a dental filling, crown, or root canal.
Here are some conditions that might lead to an extraction. If this happens to you, there is no reason to worry. We are here to help. We offer a number of tooth-replacement options to complete your smile.
Reasons For A Dental Extraction
A tooth broken at the gumline – If there is not enough tooth structure left to restore, we may need to extract your tooth and replace it with a bridge or dental implant.
A split tooth – A tooth that fractures down to the root will not be resolved with a dental crown.
A failed root canal – Sometimes root canal teeth develop a secondary infection or periodontal disease.
Symptomatic wisdom teeth – When inadequate space at the back of the mouth prevents wisdom teeth from erupting properly, extracting them can prevent overcrowding and malocclusion (bite-related issues).
Orthodontic extractions – Today, early orthodontic intervention helps prevent the need for extractions due to overcrowding. If orthodontics does not begin until the jaw is fully developed, removing one or more teeth can assist in successful orthodontic treatment.
If you have any of these conditions please call our office to be seen immediately.
