Patients face different oral health challenges at every stage of life. Kids may be more susceptible to cavities while older patients may struggle with tooth loss or gum recession.

At Nederland Family Dental, we customize treatment so that you always receive the care you need to stay healthy – for a lifetime!

WOMEN’S ORAL HEALTH

Recent research reveals that women face oral health challenges during and after menopause. Fluctuations in hormones affect oral health. Most notably, this can be observed as a greater instance of gum disease developing during pregnancy. This condition, known as pregnancy gingivitis, often resolves after the birth of the child.

When going through menopause, the entire cycle of which can take years, women’s oral health is particularly at risk. Without proper management of your periodontal condition, it may progress further and ultimately lead to tooth loss.

We effectively treat and manage all stages of gum disease in our southeast TX dental office.

Here are some of the solutions we provide for our women patients who may suddenly find themselves struggling with their periodontal health due to menopause:

Customized dental cleanings – Our approach to professional dental cleanings is to provide the level of care that will keep you healthy and comfortable. Sometimes more thorough dental cleanings, including beneath the gumline, are required to ensure your gums stay healthy.

Individual treatment plans – We may recommend additional dental cleaning appointments, 3 to 4 a year, to keep any infection at bay.

Products that support oral health – Anti-microbial rinses and medications may assist with healing infected gums.

Counseling regarding home care – We can recommend changes to your home care that take full advantage of the time you spend cleaning your smile. The proper toothbrush, toothpaste, and technique can go a long way toward protecting your smile.

Your physician may recommend hormone treatments, depending on the severity of the symptoms you experience.

Caring for the patients who need us most is important to us! Moving into the next stage of life does not mean that you need to give up your beautiful, healthy smile. Discuss any changes you notice with your hygienist at your next dental appointment or during your next dental exam with Dr. Whitney Gomez.
